Veteran altoist Jim Snydero's one-horn recordings, recorded live at a jazz club in Pennsylvania! He is a veteran altoist, having recorded his first album for Criss Cross in 1987, and has released several leader albums for Criss Cross, RED, Milestone, and other labels. Recently, he has been consistently releasing new works on the SAVANT label, and this is his 11th album on SAVANT. His previous work "Project-K," inspired by Korean culture, ethnicity, and philosophy through his Korean wife, friends, and acquaintances, was a hot topic. This live album was recorded at the Deer Head Inn, a jazz club in Pennsylvania, in the midst of the 2020 pandemic, when it was difficult for musicians in New York to perform locally. The recording was made with a limited number of people and with safety in mind. The album begins with an introduction of the members by Denny Carrig, one of the managers of the club, and includes 8 songs.The popular pianist Orin Evans, who has released albums such as "Captain Black Big Band" on the SmokeSession label, is joined on bass and drums by Peter Washington and Joe Farnsworth, two of the most consistent and sought-after rhythm sectionals in the business today. Perhaps it is because this is a live performance, but the eight songs on the album are all familiar standard numbers that keep the listener interested. Parker's lively blowing on "Now'sthe Time" and "Autumn Leaves," and Grant Green's quiet performance of the well-known "Idle Moments" are also impressive.
