Aarhus Symphony Orchestra’s Bruckner Symphony No. 9 The final movement in the Josephson edition! World premiere recording! Bruckner performed by the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, based in Aarhus, Denmark. Following Symphony No. 7 (DACOCD655), conducted by James Lochlan, comes Symphony No. 9, conducted by John Gibbons, Principal Conductor of the Worthing Symphony Orchestra (UK). Although Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 remains unfinished in its final movement (the fourth), with various completions having been proposed, this recording features the world premiere recording of the 1992 completed version of the final movement by North S. Josephson! Josephson, an American musicologist and composer, reconstructed the finale based on autograph scores and sketches held by the Austrian National Library, the Vienna City Library, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, while consulting materials edited by Alfred Aurel. The booklet features essays by British composers David Matthews and Gibbons (in English), along with notes by Dominic Nadd (in English). This new release is a must-listen for Bruckner fans and symphony enthusiasts alike! Another highlight is the superb recording by the duo of Swedish producer Lennart Dane—who was involved in the production and supervision of Danacord’s “Delius Masterpieces” series—and German engineer Stefan Frock, who served as the engineer for that series.
