Description:

Mozart composed his string trio Divertimento in E-flat major, KV.563, in 1788, after completing his last three symphonies. Mozart dedicated it to Michael von Puchberg, a fellow Freemason who owed him money. The first performance took place in Dresden on April 13, 1789, and records indicate that Mozart played the viola part. The renowned musicologist Alfred Einstein said of this rare masterpiece, "This work is true chamber music, and it is precisely because it attempts to offer something special in art, invention, and spirit that it is on such a large scale.... Each instrument requires a high level of technique and one can feel the skill of the performer. Every note of them is important, and every lean sound contributes to taking the spiritual and the sensual to new heights." Einstein also said that this is "one of his noblest works. While the highest standards are expected, this New Italian String Trio gives a fresh and wonderful performance.
