Description:
This moving concert was held on the "100th birthday" of the great master conductor Georg Solti. As a young man, he made his debut as a conductor in 1938, but because of his Jewish background, he was unable to make a public appearance. During that time, the war broke out, and he suffered the separation from his family. He later rose to the top of the music world after many hardships, but always had a desire at the bottom of his heart to "achieve peace through music" and to "support young musicians. Based on this conviction, he decided to found an orchestra. This idea was announced in 1992 at a concert at Buckingham Palace to commemorate his 80th birthday. In 1995, 81 musicians from over 40 countries gathered in Geneva to celebrate the "special power of music as an ambassador of peace," and in 1995, the World Orchestra for Peace was born.After Scholte's death in 1997, Valery Gergiev succeeded him as "Ambassador of Peace" and has been actively involved in the orchestra. This concert celebrates Scholte's 100th birthday, and the singers who were closely associated with the opera-loving Scholte will sing beautifully. The program includes R. Strauss, Mahler, and Bartók, all of which are typical of Scholte. The concert was graced by the widow of a former BBC journalist, Valerie Shorty. Her thoughts must have reached Scholty in heaven.
