Mélanie Bonis was born into a French bourgeoisie family. She showed musical talent at an early age by teaching herself to play the piano, but it was Henri Morey, who taught her cornet at the Paris Conservatory, who persuaded her parents, who were indifferent to her talent. She began studying music at around age 12, and eventually studied with César Franck, whom Mory introduced her to. On his recommendation, she enrolled at the Paris Conservatory. She studied harmony and composition at the conservatory where Pierné, Debussy, and Chausson had been enrolled, but women were not encouraged to compose in France at the time, and she published her works under the male name "Mel Bonis" instead of Melanie. During her tumultuous life, she composed and published many piano pieces and chamber music works. Her early works show the influence of her teacher Franck, but eventually transitioned to Impressionism, with a beautiful and fantastic atmosphere reminiscent of her contemporary Debussy. Most of the pieces are salon-style pieces, and "Scenes from Childhood," the world premiere recording on this album, also evokes her tender motherly perspective. Performed by Chen Mengyi, born in Wuhan in 1993.He is a talented musician who studied at a local conservatory and further studied at the Manhattan School of Music. Naxos Japan
