Description:

Two "Oedipus" by Pizzetti and Stravinsky -- A unique concert of the Gatti & Florence May Festival, live】 Using "Oedipus (King Oedipus)", one of the greatest ancient Greek tragedies, this ambitious concert juxtaposes two contrasting works written by two contemporary composers, Pizzetti (1880-1968) and Stravinsky (1882-1972). This is a live video of an ambitious concert featuring contrasting works by two composers of the same period, Pizzetti (1880-1968) and Stravinsky (1882-1972), using "Oedipus (Oedipus)," one of the greatest ancient Greek tragedies. Sophocles' "Three Symphonic Preludes to 'Oedipus the King'" was written by Pizzetti at the age of 24. It was written for a production of Sophocles' Oedipus at the Theatre in Milan. Pizzetti, who had a strong interest in Baroque and Renaissance music, was inspired by ancient Greece, and the clarity of his writing is intriguing. The opera-oratorio "Oedipus" was composed by Stravinsky on a Latin translation of a libretto by Jean Cocteau based on Sophocles' "Oedipus" and premiered in 1927 under the composer's own direction as part of the Ballets Russes' Paris tour.In 1928, when Klemperer performed this work in Berlin, he said, "[King Oedipus] gave me the greatest pleasure of all the contemporary works I have performed at the Krolloper" ("Conversations with Klemperer" published by Hakusuisha). This concert couples two works with the same theme of Greek tragedy, but with contrasting characteristics: one is an orchestral piece with clear lyricism and drama, while the other is a vocal music drama with narration that emphasizes the epic nature of the story. Under the baton of Daniele Gatti, who is known for his interpretation of modern and contemporary works, the Florentine Festival Orchestra (with chorus and soloists) performs with a neat appearance and a high sense of tension.
