Ami Fujiwara / Moshkovski: Piano Works While many people associate Moshkovski with etudes, this album allows you to discover Moshkovski beyond his reputation as a composer of purely practice-oriented pieces. He wrote many short piano pieces in the style of salon music, and while the tracks on this album are a mix of such character pieces and etudes, they all strongly reflect his virtuosic style; in that sense, many of them may be too challenging for amateur pianists to master. Ami Fujiwara’s interpretation of Moshkovsky features a soft, mellow tone and is a truly beautiful performance. “La Gondoliera” (Track 3) has a beautiful, somewhat nostalgic melody that conjures images of flowing water in the listener’s mind. “Fireworks” (Track 9) is one of Moszkowski’s best-known works; it gives the impression that the rhythm itself—rather than the melody—is the music, making it a quintessentially Moszkowski piece.
