The Osaka City Music Ensemble’s vibrant and brilliant symphonic sound! This is the latest release in the Osaka City Music Orchestra’s popular live concert series. It features a complete recording of their November 2006 regular concert. Centered around popular works by Japanese composers—such as “The Tower of Babel” by the rising star Hayato Hirose and “Magellan’s Challenge to the Unknown Continent” by Masanori Taruya—the album features a diverse selection of pieces, including the “Der Rosenkavalier” suite and Ceserini’s “Huckleberry Finn Suite” . Hayato Hirose is a disciple of Vanderroost, a charismatic figure in the wind band world, and this “Tower of Babel” was composed in 2006 and dedicated to his mentor. It premiered in Belgium in September 2006, and this performance marks its Japanese premiere. The work is brimming with the talent and creativity of Mr. Hirose, who has garnered significant attention in recent years. The “Huckleberry Finn Suite” is based on the novels of Mark Twain, author of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” and features highly entertaining pieces such as American blues and ragtime. This is a lavish album that brings together the very best of what the contemporary wind band world has to offer. The Osaka City Music Ensemble’s performance is rich in color and variety.
