David J., co-founder of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, compiles previously unreleased tracks he recorded in the studio and at home between 1983 and 2004. With Tracks from the Attic, David J., co-founder of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, invites the listener to climb the ladder, to unlock shiny gems seemingly lost to time and dust. We peek through boxes of tapes and reconnect with an artist we've known for a long time. And the intimate songs he recorded in solitude for more than 30 years show us a new side of him. Even while he was extremely busy with his two legendary groups, David J wrote a lot of songs. This album is a selection of songs he recorded in the studio and at home between 1983 and 2004. These songs were mostly forgotten after being recorded on tape, and with the exception of "This Town," all of the songs are unreleased.Composed largely on acoustic guitar, the album highlights a side of his musical style that was never fully expressed by the band, and will be an unexpected discovery for longtime fans. It is truly fascinating to follow the evolution of David J's singing style over the decades, from his early observational and lyrical montages to his later confident embrace of the deeply personal.
