Lucerne Festival Series No. 16, Böhm fans rejoice! The complete first recording of the Bull 7 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performed at the Lucerne Festival in 1964! The coupling is Hindemith's Concerto for woodwind and harp from 1970! The first master release of the acclaimed audi te label's Lucerne Festivals series, featuring the official first-ever recordings. The 16th release is Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 (September 6, 1964 / mono) and Hindemith's Concerto for woodwind and harp (September 6, 1970 / stereo), with Karl Böhm (1894-1981) conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra! Bruckner's symphonies were central to Böhm's concert repertoire along with Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. Bruckner's Seventh Symphony was one of his best-known works, and he performed it many times with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and others. Böhm made many recordings with the orchestra, including June 4 & 5, 1943 (TAH-444), March 7, 1953 (ALT-075/ALT-467), and September 26-28, 1976 (DG), and now, for the first time, the complete recording is available! Böhm appeared at the Lucerne Festival in 1964 and performed Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 and R. Strauss' "Four Last Songs" with Liza della Casa as the soloist. Only the Bruckner is included on this CD.In this performance, too, Böhm's attention to detail in all articulations, faithful to the score, shows the strong connection between Böhm and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Böhm's tension-filled performance of this work and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, whom he places great trust in, come together to create a most beautiful sound. The coupling is Hindemith's Concerto for woodwind and harp. This is the first authorized release from the master recordings kept by the Lucerne Festival, which was previously released by Seven Seas under license from Affetto in Italy (KICC-2412 (out of print))! Böhm, who was also interested in contemporary music, cherished the works of his contemporary Paul Hindemith (1895-1963). The concerto for woodwind and harp included here is Böhm's only recording. Hats off not only to the skillful playing of the principal players of the Vienna Philharmonic, but also to Böhm's perfectly matched baton. The work is a truly enjoyable and well-crafted concerto in which Mendelssohn's Wedding March appears throughout, and the performance by Böhm and the Vienna Philharmonic in its golden age is astonishing once again. This year (2021) marks the 40th anniversary of Böhm's death. His music is still a glorious legacy with an aura. In addition to the excellence of the performance, the audite label's superb reissue is also noteworthy.
