A young Austrian soprano sings. Graupner's little-known cantata. This is a collection of cantatas by Christoph Graupner, a German Baroque composer of the same era as J.S. Bach, who was a chamber musician at the Hamburg Opera and court music director of the Counts of Hessen-Darmstadt. He was nominated as a candidate to succeed his teacher Johann Kuhnau as cantor of St. Thomas Church, but his employer, the Counts of Hesse-Darmstadt, refused to let Graupner go, and the position of cantor was given to J.S. Bach. Although Graupner was the most popular composer in Germany at that time after Telemann and Handel, he had been unjustly forgotten for a long time because his bereaved family did not have publishing rights and he did not have many pupils.Singing to revive such an unknown collection of Graupner's cantatas is the young Austrian antique soprano Miriam Feuerzinger and the Swiss Period Ensemble, which gave a refreshing performance of Franz Witzum's "Heavenly Song (CHR 77354)", Capricornas Consort Basel. Feuerzinger's pleasant voice beautifully reproduces the style of Graupner's sensual cantatas. All but "Oh, God and Lord" are world premiere recordings. Tokyo M-Plus
