[Gem] The brilliant man from Sea & Him plays Billie Holiday! It reminds me of Bob Dylan's Sinatra cover trilogy (folk interpretation of jazz standards) + Neil Young's "A Letter Home" (recorded lo-fi according to a vintage telephone booth recording machine). In other words, "a work of pure cover music that brings out the emotion in the songs by stripping away the ornamentation". The material is "Lady In Satin" ('58) from the late jazz star Billie Holiday, recorded on 4 tracks with only acoustic guitar and singing on all but one track plus one track (8). The recording is very on, the excessive echoes add to the mystique, and the whispery singing, the slurred sound of the strings, and the simple but tasteful guitar obbligato are powerfully appealing.
