Following the 2016 release of "Mozart: Aria Collection," Regula Muehlemann's second solo album for Sony Classical is now available. Titled "Cleopatra: Baroque Arias," this album explores the fascination of "Cleopatra," the queen of more than 80 operas from the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition to Handel's famous "Giulio Cesare" and others, the album features arias from operas written about Cleopatra by composers as diverse as Vivaldi, Hasse, Graun, A. Scarlatti, and Mattezzone.From the passionate Vivaldi ("The Virtue that Prevails over Love and Hatred, or King Tigranes," unknown) to the melancholic Handel ("Giulio Cesare") to the superb Graun and Legrenzi ("Cleopatra and Cesare," "The Great Antiochus"), Muehlemann's rich and Muehlemann's rich and energetic singing vividly portrays Cleopatra in all her varied charms.
