Description:
The Italian composers of around 1600 turned away from Renaissance music that emphasized polyphonic intertwining and focused on solo singing, aiming for a new music that fused musicality with theatrical expression through language. The new style of music thus created was later called "Baroque," but the more one learns about Baroque music, the more one realizes that its initial development was born out of a strong interest in "language. This album features Francesco Large, who was a versatile composer in the early days of Baroque music in Italy, and was acquainted with a variety of important composers. He sang the title role in the premiere of Monteverdi's masterpiece "Orfeo," was known for his friendship with Gesualdo, and was also the author of poems that many composers used as lyrics for their madrigales. In addition to his many books of poetry, he also wrote music as a composer, including a collection of songs published in Venice in 1608.This album features Riccardo Pizzani, one of Italy's most versatile singers of ancient music, and the ensemble of Francesco Cella, a keyboardist with a long record of discovering secret pieces from this period. The ensemble will bring back to life the world of Italian classical music through a combination of various bass instruments, including the rilone, a bowed bass string instrument with many resonant strings, and the double harp, an essential instrument in early Baroque music. The 50 pages of liner notes (English, French, and Italian) are also extremely rich in explanation. Naxos Japan
