Takemitsu Toru|Mayuzumi Toshiro Eiga Ongaku Wo Kataru With Akiyama Kuniharu

Description:

Toru Takemitsu and Toshiro Mayuzumi Discuss Film Music in Their Own Words Toru Takemitsu and Toshiro Mayuzumi Discuss Film Music in Their Own Words— This CD marks the first-ever release of historic recordings in which two of Japan’s leading composers, Toru Takemitsu and Toshiro Mayuzumi, spoke with Kuniharu Akiyama about their film music. These precious recordings were discovered half a century later among the personal archives of music critic Kuniharu Akiyama— —In addition to recordings from the “People Who Shaped the History of Japanese Film Music” series, which ran in *Kinema Junpo* magazine from 1971 to 1978, this release includes a rare interview with Toru Takemitsu conducted after the completion of the film *Dodesukaden*. From his collaborations with masters such as Akira Kurosawa and Kenji Mizoguchi, to the creative process behind film music, and the future of the medium—these first-rate testimonies, indispensable for understanding the history of Japanese film and music, are vividly brought to life in the composer’s own voice. In these intimate conversations—made possible only by Kuniharu Akiyama—Toru Takemitsu and Toshiro Mayuzumi reveal a candid and lively style of expression rarely glimpsed in existing video and audio archives. With the cooperation of Kuniharu Akiyama’s wife, pianist Aki Takahashi; the composers’ surviving family members, Maki Takemitsu and Rintaro Mayuzumi; and Mr. Nobukazu Uekusa (later editor-in-chief of *Kinema Junpo*), who conceived the series “People Who Shaped the History of Japanese Film Music,” this CD project—made possible through the cooperation of all those involved—serves as an irreplaceable historical record for understanding the history of Japanese film and music culture, while also offering a precious document that allows listeners to experience the personal charm of these two masters. From simply “listening” to film music to the joy of “learning about” and “reflecting on” it— A precious testimony to the history of Japanese film music, revived across half a century. We invite you to listen to the voices of these two masters. *This CD contains recorded conversations.
