A collection of Italian bel canto opera arias, primarily from 19th-century Naples, forming the core of Didonato’s repertoire. Didonato, an American mezzo-soprano, draws on her creamy tone and dramatic vocal prowess to perform works by Mercadante, Michele Carafè (a student of Cherubini and a close friend of Rossini), Carlo Valentini, and Giovanni Pacini—a prolific composer of operas (the album title is taken from his *Stella di Napoli* [Star of Naples])—with her rich, creamy tone and dramatic vocal prowess. Joyce has collaborated with Italian conductor Riccardo Minasi—known for his project of Bellini’s *Norma* with Cecilia Bartoli, as well as for his work as a Baroque violinist—to shed light on three unjustly overlooked operas, resulting in world premiere recordings. In addition to these rare arias, she has performed works by the leading composers of bel canto opera—such as Bellini, Rossini, and Donizetti—the leading composers of bel canto opera (Donizetti’s *Maria Stuarda* is one of her signature works, and her Met production has been highly acclaimed in film screenings and DVD releases)—making this a truly lavish anthology.
