Maile (1763-1845), regarded as a rival of Rossini, was originally from Bavaria, Germany, but studied in Italy and rose to the position of life music director of Bergamo Cathedral. From his 70 operas, which have been showing signs of revival in recent years, this recording includes his long-loved Greek tragedy "Media". The strong voice of Rodriguez, a soprano who is rapidly rising in popularity, and Spyras, who made his name as a Rossini tenor, and Scala, who made a spectacular debut with the Royal Opera in 2015. These two tenors battle it out. And conductor Fabio Luisi's intense approach shines through as well.Recorded at the 41st Itria Valley Music Festival in July 2015, using the latest comparative revision of G. Ricordi's edition by P.
