With Ashkenazy! The gifted cellist Mats Lidström recorded his own work and Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1 on SACD hybrid disc. Mats Lidström is one of Sweden's leading cellists. In his first new recording since his debut release of Kabalevsky's Cello Concerto No. 2 and Khachaturian's Cello Concerto (BIS719), Lidström has recorded his own work Rigoletto Fantasy and Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1. Performing with him are the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Ashkenazy. Lidström studied with Maja Vogl in Gothenburg. He then studied at the Juilliard School under Leonard Rose, and has been active as principal cellist with the Norrshopong Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and as of 2018 he is also widely active as a soloist. Lidström's own Rigoletto Fantasy, an 11-piece work dedicated to cellist and composer Mats Londin, was premiered in 2009.
