The new album by Icelandic guitarist Andrés Thor. “The first thing that struck me when listening to the music on this album was the beauty of the guitar sound—it truly moves the heart.” Hein Vande Geyn, the bassist under whom Andrés studied in the Netherlands, says this. “Over the years, he has matured into a beautiful musician, both as a performer and a composer.” Relocate is an album that showcases a further refinement of his artistry compared to Hereby (LOS269-2), released in 2022. The trio’s lineup remains the same as on the previous album: Nico (Nicolas) Moreaux, a bassist and composer who shuttles between France and Iceland and possesses a rich, warm tone reminiscent of Dave Holland and Palle Danielsson; and Magnús Trygvason Elíassen, an Icelandic drummer who frequently collaborates with Moreaux and has many hopes for future collaborations. The session took place in a studio in Reykjavík, with the instrumentation set up to allow the musicians to listen to each other’s sounds and fine-tune the timing of their playing and improvisation. The program features “IsItMe,IsItYou,” which explores the inner self; “TuesdayMorningCoffee,” with its dense, resonant sound; “GraceonHigh,” which creates a captivating sound by layering pedal steel over the guitar; and “VingtHuit,” notable for its concise bass intro. The program consists of nine songs composed by Andriès.
