Description:

Recordings of two new orchestral works by Barbara Harbach, a composer and keyboardist from Pennsylvania, USA. Harbach has been active as a harpsichordist and organist as well as a composer for over 40 years, and MSR has released an ongoing collection of her works. This CD, the twelfth collection, includes her 2017 works, Symphony No. 11, "The Return Retourner," and the orchestral suite "Hypocrisy." Both are world premiere recordings. The "Retourner" is based on Willa Cather's (1873-1947) novel "Oh Pioneers!" (1913) by Willa Cather (1873-1947). Hypocrisy" is music for the 1915 silent film of the same name directed by Lois Weaver (1888-1939). Both pieces are quite gentle, moderately romantic, and pleasant in style. The performance by British conductor David Angus and the London Philharmonic Orchestra is also very fulfilling. Incidentally, Harbach as a keyboardist has also been released on CD by MSR, including the complete set of Sorel's sonatas (MS 1300 14CD), which is a great achievement. Tobu Land System
