They have performed alongside an impressive lineup of artists—including Dua Lipa, Moses Boyd, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, and Tom Misch—and have also contributed to Grammy-nominated Angelique Kidjo’s latest album, *MotherNature*, rapidly gaining a global following. Having already made waves in Japan—including the release of a split 7-inch with KanSano—they are finally releasing their long-awaited full-length album on the prestigious Blue Note label. The album features tracks previously released as singles, such as “Labels” and “Dat It,” as well as “Home,” which showcases the new-generation diva Pip Millet, and “Motherland Journey,” which showcases a fresh take on Afrobeat while incorporating samples of Fela Kuti. While grounded in their roots, the album transforms them into a new sound through the filter of the UK jazz scene, resulting in a masterpiece worthy of the name. Regarding the title track “Motherland Journey,” which was released digitally as a lead single on December 10, members NKOK and MrDM said, “This song, featuring the great Fela Kuti, is very special to us. We created this track in Ghana with Killbeats, and when we received permission from his publisher to feature Fela Kuti’s vocals on it, we were literally blown away. It was the moment our dream came true,” they said.
