The latest reissue from the original analog master tapes in Japan for this release. DISC2 is the long-awaited first SA-CD release of Mozart No. 25 and No. 27! Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) recorded Mozart's four piano concertos for DG in 1974 and the following year, and these four concertos have been collected in a 2-CD set. DISC2, No. 25 and No. 27, will be the first SA-CD release of these four pieces. These four recordings, along with Beethoven's complete piano concertos recorded for Decca in 1970 and the following year (reissued as SA-CD hybrid PROC-2425 by this project in March 2025), are among the most representative session recordings by Goulder in the 1970s, and have never been commercially released by Universal. It has been reissued many times even in the CD era, and is a historical legacy that should be preserved for posterity as the ultimate form of one of these recordings. The four recordings here are among the few that Gurda said he was truly satisfied with during his lifetime, and are rare recordings on the DG label. Goulda, who had special feelings for Mozart, recorded Concertos Nos. 21 and 27 for the Concert Hall in 1963 (released in 2016 as a hybrid SA-CD disc as TWSA1011, a Tower project with Columbia). Accompanied by the Vienna State Opera Orchestra conducted by Swarovski, this recording was a hit for its performance, which in a sense could be described as freewheeling. In the same Vienna recording for DG about 10 years later, the orchestra and the traditional interpretation were used with particular attention to the piano sound, which is characterized by a soft and rich tone that is different from Beethoven's. This is also an important interpretation of Goulda's music. This is also one of Goulda's important interpretations, and it can be said to be the result of his search for the ideal image of Mozart in Vienna. Abbado's close relationship with the Vienna Philharmonic enhances the overall value of the performance. The beauty in these performances is truly exceptional, and the clarity and fineness of the grain has been enhanced by the latest high quality sound.The SA-CD release of the CD further accentuates these masterful performances. In No. 20, only the first cadenza of the third movement is his own (the other two are Beethoven's), in No. 21, all the cadenzas are his (both in the first and third movements), in No. 25, he uses his own cadenza in the first movement as well, and in No. 27, among the four cadenzas, only II in the third movement is used, the others are Mozart's.
