Martin Brabbins, the Master! Stanford's "Requiem"! Stanford's "Requiem" in the vein of Brahms! The world of solace and renewal depicted by the master conductor Martin Brabbins! Martin Brabbins recorded the "Requiem" by Irish composer Stanford! Stanford was only 10 years old when he saw the paintings of the famous British artist Frederic Leighton and was influenced by his work. The work belonged to the neoclassical school, which Stanford could relate to in many ways. When Layton, a Catholic, died in 1896, it was an opportunity for him to compose a "requiem. Its style, like Brahms's "German Requiem," which Stanford himself had brought to Cambridge 20 years earlier, was about consolation and renewal, never about judgment or the fear of damnation.Although written with a large orchestra of four soloists, choir, and orchestra, it is a wonderful blend of symphonic and operatic aspects of Stanford's earlier works, with the choir singing more in hymn-like harmony than in complex counterpoint.
