Description:
Roy Harris (1898-1979) was a composer from Oklahoma. Like many American composers of his time, he studied in Paris and was under the tutelage of Nadia Boulanger, while at the same time immersing himself in the study of Renaissance music. Many of his piano pieces were written for his wife Johanna, a pianist, and while they use medieval songs and baroque counterpoint, they are excellent works that convey a faint scent of 20th century French music. The exploration of polytonality, improvisatory passages, and American and Irish folk songs that can be heard from somewhere ......, make for a wide range of virtuosity. From the large-scale works to the fragmentary pieces, all of them are unique. Naxos Japan
