Description:

Furtwängler's only recording of "The Eternal Punishment of Faust" is now available for the first time on CD from the master of the world premiere LP. The only recording of the master's "Faust's Punishment" is now available for the first time on CD from the master of the world premiere LP. Although the tape was erased by the broadcasting station (Bellomunster Radio), a copy of the tape was discovered by a collector in 1980, and based on it, the world premiere LP (FE-21/3) was released by Chetra in 1983. The following year, in 1984, King Records released a domestic LP (K20C-337/9) based on this master. The catchphrase was "30 years of waiting! The catchphrase is "That fantastic masterpiece finally sees the light of day! The catchphrase is "30 years we've been waiting! This is the first CD release in 40 years! This "Dramatic Tale" consists of 20 scenes in 4 parts. Furtwängler, who was familiar with Goethe's original, chose the German translation instead of the original French libretto, and chose German-speaking singers Flöns (Faust), Hotter (Mephistopheles), and Schwarzkopf (Margarete) to perform the work. The master conductor performed a number of masterpieces including "Hungarian March," "Flea Song," "Dance of the Fairies," "Ballade of the King of Thule," "Minuet of the Demon Fire," and "Serenade of Mephistopheles," and showed his greatness only live performance in "Hungarian March," while Schwarzkopf's "King of Thule" was exquisitely supported by the accompaniment. Schwarzkopf's "King of Thule" is supported by exquisite accompaniment. This is a rare recording by the master of German and French opera, a fusion of two contrasting musical characters. Furtwängler's "Faust's Eternal Punishment" is very rare in that the German version of the text is used. This is probably due to the fact that Lucerne, along with Zurich, is a German-speaking part of Switzerland, but to the ear accustomed to hearing the French text, it has a very different feel. However, it is quite significant that Berlioz's German version, which was performed in Germany with Liszt's support and gained a good reputation, is now available on Furtwängler's bar.Furtwängler's interpretation is particularly impressive in that the singing part, which is given by the German language, has the character of German operas from Gluck to Wagner (which was not at all foreign to Berlioz), The orchestral part is a fusion of two contrasting musical characters, with Furtwängler's careful treatment of the wind instruments in key passages depicting French textures. The recording is a live recording made in the 1950s, so it is not sufficient, but Furtwängler's exquisite instructions for the main parts are evident. The way Furtwängler reproduced the transparent textures in the third section, the "Onigafire" Menuetto, in the effect of weak tones, is particularly impressive. More than any other conductor, Furtwängler's orchestral handling throughout this grand work is more Latin than Germanic in its clarity.(Toshio Oka, from the liner notes of the LP when it was released) The master tape (38cm, 2-track), which is the closest to the original, has been remastered with the latest technology at King Sekiguchidai Studio, and is now available on CD! This is the long-awaited CD version of the "Dramatic Story" told movingly and dramatically by the maestro, a precious disc suitable for the 70th anniversary of his death. (King International) Included in the CD Berlioz: Dramatic Tale "Faust's Eternal Punishment" Op. 24 (German version translated by Adolf Zimmermann) 66:15 / 76:57 Performers France Flöns (tenor: Faust), Hans Hotter (baritone: Mephistopheles), Elisabeth Schwarzkopf (Soprano:Margarete), Alois Pernelstorfer (Bass:Brandel) Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Chorus Wilhelm Furtwängler (conductor) Recorded live at Jesuit Church, Lucerne, 26 August 1950 (2CD) MONO Japanese obi, with commentary (commentary by Toshio Oka / Keiichi Kunoh)
