A masterpiece in the history of music woven by an "expanded string quartet" of Baroque instruments】This new recording is based on a string quartet formation using string instruments of the model that existed during Bach's lifetime, but also using instruments that became obsolete after the Classical period to approach the original state of the work. The Technique of Fugue" was composed by the great polyphonic composer Bach in his old age as a synthesis of his own counterpoint art, but was unfinished in his last years without finishing the final piece. String quartets were also often used. String quartets have also been used frequently, but the drawback is that the three classical instruments are difficult to handle in terms of register, such as the viola part (many of the pieces are close to the pre-Baroque style of organ music as a gamba ensemble, and many are closer to the lower register).Recognized for its recording (RIC 422) of A. Scarlatti's four-voice sonatas, considered "the oldest string quartet," L'Eclairage introduced a small French Baroque-style violin (known by its Italian name, the violino piccolo) and an 18th century cello piccolo, which can handle a higher range than a regular cello. The 18th-century cello piccolo was also introduced, and all the notes were played exactly as Bach had written them. The final section is sometimes performed in the original score, but here, violinist Mathieu Camilleri proposed his own ending, following the manner of ancient music reproduction. The proposed addendum, which concludes by returning to the theme at the beginning of the cycle, resonates with a unique persuasiveness, and is sure to leave a deep impression when heard in its entirety. The liner notes (in French, English, and German) by Gilles Cantagrel, a musicologist who has also worked with the Leipzig Bach Archiv, and the ensemble itself, provide interesting insights into both the performance history and practical know-how of the works.
