Description:
The "Vienna State Opera 150th Anniversary Concert" was held on May 25, 2019. Richard Strauss' opera "The Shadowless Woman," premiered by Franz Schalk at the Vienna State Opera in 1919, was performed by Karl Böhm at the commemorative performance (1955) when the opera house was rebuilt after its destruction in World War II, and by The Vienna State Opera has a strong connection with this work, as Herbert von Karajan performed it when he retired in 1964. Thielemann is so devoted to the works of Richard Strauss that he states, "Richard Strauss is the only composer I have ever wanted to meet in person," and he carefully weaves together the complex emotions of the characters hidden in the seemingly fairy tale-like story and the colorful music of Strauss who depicted them with fine expression. Strauss' colorful music, which depicts these emotions in minute detail, is carefully spun out. The singing by some of the finest singers of our time, including Gould, Neerund, and Stemme, is also superb. Naxos Japan
