Two carefully selected tracks from Tsuchiya Ni Bond’s monthly digital release series are now available on vinyl!! This long-awaited 7" release features a double A-side pairing of Tsuchiya Ni Bond’s superb reggae track “Irie”—by Takamasa Tsuchiya, a musician and healer based in Koyasan—and a cover of Yuta Orisaka’s classic song “Sakamichi”!! “Irie” features Kazuhiko Masumura on percussion, Takujuro Iwade (absent from today’s performance) on guitar, and Masashi Hateruma on drums, and was produced during the COVID-19 pandemic in a process close to a one-take recording. Although it had been shelved for a long time without being finalized, the addition of a guitar part inspired by samba techniques and lyrics by Makito Watanabe helped define the song’s shape, resulting in a finished track with a warm, approachable pop-song feel. Tsuchiya handled all the instrumentation for “Sakamichi” himself. Envisioning an 80s-style refreshing feel—as if you could feel the spray of water—and a sparkling atmosphere, the song took shape all at once with the addition of rhythmic elements from Cuban music and salsa. Recording, mixing, and mastering were handled by Kosuke Nakamura, who has worked with artists such as Yuta Orisaka and Uchu Nekoko. This is a must-listen track.
