This is the second live album by Irina Meduyeva, who has been attracting a great deal of attention for her remarkable growth and development over the past few years. Her first live album, "Pictures at an Exhibition - Live in Uozu" (WAKA-4108), received extremely high acclaim in various fields, and this time, too, the performance is as excellent as one would expect. The main program from the June 2005 concert in Tokorozawa includes Beethoven's "Passion" (recorded for the first time), as well as Schumann and Chopin, two of his favorites, and Chopin's "Scherzo No. 3," which was highly praised in the 2002 studio recording, is even more dignified and full of flavor. Also included are Bach's masterpieces "Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue" and "Toccata in E minor" and Beethoven's "Sonata No. 30" from the 2003 concert at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall, and his 18th metronome from the 2002 concert in Niigata. The performance is full of the driving and excitement of a live performance, and the tension in the "Tragic Sonata" is especially overwhelming.
