The first disc of "Tragic" by the genius Barshai. This is an even more problematic work than the Guillen disc. The body is athletic and shapely to the extreme, and the expression is dry and cool, without a shred of emotion. The symphonic masterpiece sounds lyrical in its own way even when played without thinking, but Barshai's intention is always clear in every part of the symphony. Especially in the slow movement (3rd movement), is there any other performance in which he spins the music so colorlessly (or denies color)? This performance raises too many problems to call it a non-romantic interpretation. The way the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra devotedly followed is frightening. Tobu Land System
