The world’s first recording of Holst’s “First Suite” (autograph version)! The Tokyo Wind Sinfonica’s debut album! This live recording marks the world premiere of the autograph version of Holst’s “First Suite”—a work familiar to everyone from middle and high school students to adults—and is also the world’s first recording of this version. Although this piece forms the core of the wind ensemble repertoire, little attention has been paid to Holst’s autograph score. The score used here is the “Urtext Edition,” which corrects alterations made by publishers and printing errors based on the autograph. Holst’s original musical vision is brought back to life here! In addition to frequently performed wind band classics such as R. Strauss’s “Festzug,” works by Respighi and Grainger, this album also features Itobu’s “Yoshishi-mai.” You’ll recognize phrases that sound familiar. Furthermore, in Maurice’s “Scenes from Provence,” soloist Masato Kumoi’s skill truly shines. Beautiful scenes, reminiscent of watercolor paintings, come to life. Octavia Records
