Sayaka Kamizono, who began her career as an enka singer and has been pursuing a path as a singer-songwriter since 2020, has poured the time she’s accumulated and her current state of mind into this new album featuring a total of eight songs. “I want this to be passed on from the people you cherish to the people they cherish—and I want the message to truly resonate.” It has been 23 years since her debut in 2003. Sayaka Kamizono, who began her career as an enka singer and has been forging a new path as a singer-songwriter since 2020, has poured the time she has accumulated and her current state of mind into her new album, *Antique*. Melodies tinged with nostalgia, the beauty of the Japanese language’s resonance, and the energy of contemporary sounds. Drawing on her experience expressing music from various eras, she has not merely nostalgically retraced the past, but rather reconstructed the enduring charm of music that transcends time using her current sensibilities and sound. Featuring eight tracks in total—including the pre-release single “Nanaya Tsuki”—this album fully captures Sayaka Kamizono’s lyrical worldview and her undeniable expressive power as a singer. She hopes that the music she has cherished will become cherished by others, and eventually be passed on to those dear to them. This is an album created with the hope that it will age alongside the lives of each listener, eventually becoming a true “Antique” in the future. ■ Artist’s Comment ■ I chose the title “Antique” not simply to mean something old, but to convey the idea of something whose value deepens with the passage of time. New things emerge, new songs are born, and new perspectives come into view. At the same time, the things I have cherished will be cherished by someone else. And someday, they’ll be passed on to that person’s loved ones. I believe music has the power to connect people to one another, and the past to the future, in just that way. This album features songs I’ve cherished and sung over the years, as well as new songs that I could only create as the person I am today. This is not a collection that simply replicates music from the past or compiles old material. While inheriting the universal charm of music that has endured across the ages, I’ve shaped it into new music using my own sensibilities and sound as someone living in the present. Born in the Showa era, debuting in the Heisei era, and becoming a singer-songwriter in the Reiwa era—I’m proud to say this is a work that only Sayaka Kamizono could create. I would be delighted if, over time, this album grows little by little in the hearts of those who listen, becomes a cherished record that evokes “those days” for someone, and one day truly becomes an “Antique” in the truest sense.
