Nathan Mirshtein Live at the peak of his 50's career! Mendelssohn & Dvorak Concertos! The Lucerne Festival Series, the first master release on the acclaimed Audite label. The thirteenth release is Mendelssohn and Dvorak's Violin Concertos performed by Nathan Milshtein (1903-1992)! Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto is well known for the highly acclaimed performance by the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Abbado in March 1973, which was recorded by Milshteyn. This live performance was given 20 years earlier, at the age of 50, when MIRSHTAIN was at the peak of his powers. The performance is a magnificent rendition of his best works, captivating with his graceful, fresh tone and perfection. Although there was a pirate release of this performance, this is of course a reissue from the original master, and the reliable reissue technique of Lutger Beckenhoff, owner of audite, has brought this glorious performance back to life. The coupling is Dvorak's Violin Concerto.The most representative recording of this work is the 1957 performance with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra conducted by William Steinberg, but this is a live performance from 1955, two years earlier. From the opening melody, which reaches the high register, the tone is clear and beautiful, and the performance is the ultimate in elegance. The expression of the singing spirit is a masterpiece that could only be performed by MIRSITNEIN at the height of his purity. In addition to the excellence of the performance, this recording is also notable for its superb reissue, and although it is in monaural, you can enjoy very clear sound quality. King International
