Toccata op.11(1932)/ Spartacus and Phrygia Adagio No.34 from the ballet "Spartacus"(1954, 1968 revised)(piano arrangement by Emin Khachaturian(1930-2000)) Komitas(1869-1935):Dances (1906)(No.1-4) Performer Jean-Paul Gasparien, piano Recorded: November 21-24, 2023,France Jean-Paul Gasparyan, who has roots in Armenia, presents a collection of music rooted in Armenia. Gasparyan's father was born in Yerevan, Armenia, and moved to France in 1974. Gasparyan was born in Paris in 1995. Already highly acclaimed for his Debussy collection (V 7958), Gasparyan here displays his pristine energy, including a fervent Khachaturian toccata. Like a fish out of water, he sang all the pieces freely and with great feeling. Two of Gasparyan's own works are also included. The Ballade, based on an Armenian song by Sayat-Nova, has a delicate, mysterious atmosphere and beautiful spiraling arabesque-like passages that overlap, giving it a unique charm. The unique transparency in the last recorded Comitas piece is full of brilliant pianism and charm. Gasparyan~Born in Paris in 1995. Studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with Olivier Galdon, Jacques Louvier, Michel Beloff, Laurent Cabasso, Claire Désert, and Michel Dalbert.Participated in international piano master classes with Vilsalase and Tatiana Zelikman; Honorable Mention, Verbier Academy, 2014; Honorable Mention, Salzburg Academy, 2010; Completed the Royal Academy of Music (Artist Diploma) in 2018, in the class of Professor Vanessa Latarsh.
