Mark Padmore and Paul Lewis' superb performance of "Winter's Journey" is back! Tenors Mark Padmore and Paul Lewis are back with their superb 2008 recording of "Winter Journey" (HMU.907484/KKC.5398 is out of print). Under the dark sky in the deep cold winter, "Winter Journey" begins with the monologue of "I" as a traveler who simply steps on the snow. The piano prelude, followed by Padmore's voice, draws the audience into the frozen winter world. Padmore tells the story as "I" and at the same time as a third person who calmly observes "I" who has been torn apart by love. The audience sometimes feels as if Padmore himself is the main character, and when they enter the world sympathizing with the main character, they are suddenly transported into a very strange sensory world where the main character suddenly disappears and they feel as if they are trapped in a cold world. The fifth piece, the famous "Bodhi Tree," was more sad than tender. The warmth of "Dream of Spring" is short-lived, as the audience is quickly drawn back into the darkness of despair.It is also important to note that everything is sung in the same key as when Schubert composed it, and the deep concentration is consistent, sometimes driving you to the edge of insane despair, but at the end it is strange because you feel as if you are being taken back to the entrance of the normal world. Padmore's penetrating voice, beautiful vocalization of the words, and ensemble with the piano are perfect; Padmore, who gave a wonderful performance of "Winter Journey" in Tokyo in June 2008 (the pianist was Imogen Cooper), is a great performer. Padmore is a world-renowned tenor who was an evangelist for the Berlin Philharmonic's performance of the Matthew Passion under Rattle, and this "Winterreise" is one of his many recordings with an especially strong presence. Paul Lewis on piano has also been on the rise in recent years, and his piano performance of "Winter Journey" is also a rare treat. King International
