Barry Douglas returns to his roots! Folk arrangements of his native Ireland! Born in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, Barry Douglas was the first non-Russian to win the Gold Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition since Van Cliburn, and has since become a world-class pianist, receiving the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2002. Since moving his recording base to Chandos, Douglas has steadily built a reputation for his royal repertoire of Brahms and Schubert, but this new recording features piano arrangements of Irish and Celtic music, which are Douglas' roots. This new recording features piano arrangements of Irish and Celtic music, including the well-known classics "Danny Boy (Song of Londonderry)" and "A Thousand Roses in the Garden (Remnants of a Summer Rose)," as well as Irish music by contemporary composers.Aimir McGeon, who plays Irish flute on four songs, is an artist who skillfully uses both classical and Irish flute, and is a soloist of great ability, having performed the last night on the Belfast stage at the BBC Proms 2012.
