Description:
A rising star in the world of violin, Maria Dueñas makes her debut album for Deutsche Grammophon with her shocking debut album of Beethoven concertos, "clearly unstoppable" (Strad magazine), a violinist who is rapidly gaining popularity. The central piece chosen is Beethoven's Beethoven, considered the most musically challenging of all violin concertos. Recorded live at the Musikverein in Vienna with Manfred Honeck and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Dueñas composed his own cadenza for this concerto. The album includes their Beethoven cadenzas along with works by Kreisler, Saint-Saens, Spohr, Wieniawski and Ysaÿe. Maria Dueñas was born in Granada, Spain, and lives and works in Vienna. One of the most thoughtful and communicative musicians in the classical world today, she has an impressive schedule of concerts in prominent venues around the world. Speaking Spanish, English, and German to perfection, Maria has been sought out as a soloist by many of the world's top orchestras, and over the past few years has performed at the National Concert Hall in Madrid, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Musikverein in Vienna, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, among other venues. In the past few years, he has been invited to perform at such illustrious venues as the National Concert Hall in Madrid, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Musikverein in Vienna, Carnegie Hall in New York and Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. In May 2022, he gave the world premiere of Gabriela Ortiz's violin concerto "Altar de cuerda", dedicated to him, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic & Gustavo Dudamel. In 2021, he won the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition, the world's most prestigious competition for young violinists, with a "free and joyful personality" ("Frankfurter Argerich"), and in 2022, he won the "Frankfurter Argerich International Violin Competition" ("Frankfurter Argerich"), the world's most prestigious competition for young violinists ("Frankfurter Argerich International Violin Competition"). In 2021, she won the first prize at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition, the world's most prestigious competition for young violinists, for a performance of "freedom and joyful individuality" (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).
