Jonas Kaufmann's latest and much-anticipated 2017 album is a collection of brilliant arias from 19th century French opera, from Allevi's The Jewess in 1835, Berlioz's The Trojans in 1858, Berlioz's Carmen (1875), two Bizet masterpieces, The Pearl Harvester (1863) and Gounod's Romeo and Juliet" and then Massenet's 1892 masterpiece "Werther," the selection includes 11 arias and three duets from 12 operas and one vocal work that are literally the essence of French opera. French opera is a repertoire near and dear to my heart," said Kaufman. These works reflect the atmosphere of an extremely unique period in the history of European culture.
