A tribute to the legendary Memphis soul label STAX by the great female singer/songwriter/guitarist Melissa Ethridge! LAWRENCE "BOO" MITCHELL's Royal Studios in Memphis. Melissa has done many covers in the past, but her biggest influences were the STAX songs she heard on the radio growing up, as well as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and many others. I really wanted to sing emotionally like that on my dream label. I really wanted to sing emotionally like that on the label I admired so much.Melissa's soulful renditions of Otis' classic songs, including the Staple Singers' "Respect Yourself," Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Coming," Albert King's "Born Under a Bad Sign," and Johnnie Taylor's "Who's Making Love," are all brought back to life by the soulful Melissa. It was recorded in 10 days at Royal Studios, the legendary studio created by Willie Mitchell and succeeded by his son Lawrence "Boo", and Melissa couldn't believe how little had changed since 1964.
