The world of Nico Murray, brought to life by the renowned Modlin College Choir! A new collection of choral works featuring 13 world premiere recordings! A collection of choral works by Nico Murray, a young American contemporary composer active across various genres. Murray is an American composer whose work spans a wide range of genres, including orchestral, choral, chamber music, opera, and film scores. He has received commissions from the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, and major orchestras, and his works have been performed by ensembles such as the Tallis Scholars and the prestigious choirs of Cambridge and Oxford. This album features works primarily written for the Oxford Magdalen College Choir, many of which were commissioned by the ensemble. Thirteen of the tracks are world premiere recordings. In addition to Masses and canticles, the album includes anthems for the liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension Day, Trinity Sunday, and Memorial Services. While shedding light on lesser-known texts, the album portrays the familiar seasons of the church year from a fresh perspective. The Oxford Magdalen College Choir was founded in 1480 as the largest choir in late medieval England, and this historical legacy has been maintained for five centuries. Now internationally acclaimed as one of the finest ensembles in the UK, the choir performs daily church services at Magdalen College Chapel and at numerous special events throughout the year, including the famous May Day celebrations, a tradition dating back to the 16th century. The choir is also active in concert performances and has been highly acclaimed for its appearances at the BBC Proms and Cadogan Hall, as well as for its collaborations with leading British orchestras such as the Britten Sinfonia and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Under the direction of Mark Williams—who has served as Assistant Organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and has collaborated with numerous renowned orchestras, choirs, and ensembles as a conductor, harpsichordist, and organist—Müller’s delicate style intersects with the choir’s sound, cultivated through a long tradition, to create an album that sheds new light on the various seasons of the church year.
