Renaud Capuçon's new recording is Bach's Violin Concerto. In a word, a cool performance that is rich, passionate, and exhilarating! Recently, Bach's works are usually played in period style, even on modern instruments. While there are more and more recordings based on such performances, Capuçon's performance stands out from the crowd. The fast movement is played on a modern instrument, of course, with full use of the bow and great power. The slow movement is traced with fine, precise lines. A tense one-phrase movement with a single bow, but with a lot of strength and weakness in the movement. This must be the most modern music in recent years. The Chamber Orchestra of Europe in the background was also a superb ensemble with Bach's lively rhythms and exquisite inter-instrumental precision. Also included is Latvian composer Vasks' exciting and highly creative "Distant Light." The artful dark worldview and the light that leads into it are exquisite as the repeated sad-colored chords fade out with taut resonance.Experience the Capuçonian evolution in performances of these two composers.
