Description:

Neumeier and Auerbach present the 21st century version of "Evgeny Onegin" John Neumeier and the Hamburg Ballet Company's second ballet by Lehra Auerbach. This time it is "Tatjana" by Auerbach's great predecessor Pushkin. Based on Tchaikovsky's well-known opera "Evgeny Onegin. This ballet depicts the heroine Tatyana's point of view, not that of Onegin. Dostoevsky and others have said that Tatyana, not Onegin, is the true hero of the novel, and Neumeier and Auerbach agree. The ballet of "Evgeny Onegin" is known to have been created by Neumeier's mentor John Cranko in 1965, but he was not influenced by that ballet at all, rather he drew on Andrea Brate's 1980s-style interpretation in Tchaikovsky's opera. Tatyana is an impressionable young girl in rural Russia. Neumeier states that everything that happens in the story originates in her delusions. Therefore, it centers on Tatyana's dream place, which neither Tchaikovsky nor Cranko dealt with, and the bear appears as a symbol of Freudian psychology, leading to a surprising ending. The eloquence of the music is also noteworthy. The original story is recited by the Russian Auerbach, and he re-creates Pushkin in the 21st century with his own literary talent and imagination. Unexpected is Onegin, played by Levazov. Neumeier modeled him after the famous Russian avant-garde painter Lhotchenko, and the nihilistic aristocratic young man of 19th century Russia appears in punk-inspired fashion, with skinhead, naked and wearing a jacket. The bonus video is an interesting talk by Neumeier, Bouchet, and Levazov about their views and intentions for the work. Japanese subtitles are included. King International
