Vivat is an independent label launched in 2013 by Robert King and King's Consort, masters of British classical music. The second volume of the newly launched Purcell recordings is now available! The King's Consort's Purcell recordings began in 1988 with the first volume of Purcell's Ode, which was not well-known at the time, and continued with the eighth volume of Purcell's complete ode cycle (CDS44031/8). Subsequently, a series of recordings of Purcell's complete religious music (CDS44141/51) and the complete secular solo songs (CDS44161/3) took the ancient music world by storm and made the King's Consort known as Purcell specialists.The new Purcell album (PVIVAT121/VIVAT121), session-recorded during the fall 2020 pandemic lockdown, was highly acclaimed and was named "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone magazine in the UK, and the second new Purcell album follows, Mary The second installment of the new Purcell album features three odes written for the Queen's birthday. Overtures, choruses, arias, and charming ritornellos come one after the other in three masterful odes that are festive on the surface, yet richly imbued with the melancholic sensibility that characterizes Purcell's great music, and are performed by Carolyn Sampson, Yestyn Davis, Charles The three masterpieces are performed by Carolyn Sampson, Justin Davis, Charles Daniels, and Matthew Brook, all of whom have recorded and performed Purcell's music with King's Consort for 20 years (Daniels also participated in the recording of the first volume of the ode collection 33 years ago!) ) and an elite ensemble led by Kati Debreceni.
