Katrin Schmidlin to Release Album of Works on Clara SchumannKatrin Schmidlin, who has been active in recording works by female composers, will release an album of works on Clara Schumann. Clara Josephine Wieck, who began her career as a child prodigy pianist, continued her own career after her marriage to Robert Schumann in 1840, and later worked as a performer, composer, and piano teacher under the name Clara Schumann. Her brilliant piano playing inspired many composers of her time, who dedicated their works to her. As a pianist, Clara loved to play works by J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and Brahms, but only a few works by her contemporaries Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Stephan Heller (1813-1888). This album presents works by ten Danish, German, Czech, and Hungarian Romantic composers and one female composer, including some now forgotten world premiere recordings. The works are in a variety of forms, including small pieces, dances, variations, and fantasies.Katrin Schmidlin is an upcoming pianist who has released two works on the CLAVES label: a collection of piano works by female composers, "Op. 1" (50-3051), and a duo with cellist Anna Fortova, "Female Voices" - Works for Cello and Piano (50-3029).
