The Dogma Chamber Orchestra's second Mendelssohn project also includes Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in D minor by Vivian Hagner Mendelssohn composed 12 Sinfonias for strings between the ages of 12 and 14. The Dogma Chamber Orchestra has released a series of Mendelssohn releases, including five concertos written around the same time. This follow-up to the first release (MDG-91221936) includes Sinfonias Nos. 4-6 as well as the Violin Concerto in D minor, recorded with Vivian Hagner as soloist. This work was composed before the famous concerto in E minor, and the influence of a slightly older friend, Eduard Rietz, who was learning the violin, can be heard. The work was long forgotten, but has been performed in modern times since its discovery by Menuhin in 1951. Vivienne Hagner's violin sings the lively music with great eloquence and exuberance.
