Barbirolli (1899-1970) and the Orchestre de Halle, 1964. The Halle Orchestra has a history dating back to 1858. Barbirolli was the music director of the Halle Orchestra from 1943 until his death, and was loved by the orchestra and its audiences alike for his brilliant restoration of the orchestra, which at the time was on the verge of extinction, and its growth into a world-class orchestra. Soprano Anita Wärkki (1926-2011) was a Finnish dramatic soprano who made her London debut in 1961 and sang Brunnhilde at Bayreuth in 1963/64, earning a reputation as a Wagnerian singer of international prominence. This is a superb live recording in both atmosphere and performance, with the audience's love for Barbirolli and Verucki's wonderful singing. King International
