This is the second in a series of recordings designed to acquaint the listener with all of Lango's (1893-1952) diverse string quartet compositions. The name of the world premiere recording, "Play in the Rose Garden," is the name of a house in Blekinge, a spa resort in Sweden, where he and his parents went for a summer vacation when he was 20 years old, and where he stayed for about two months, an experience that Rango never forgot. The sweet reminiscences that pervade the entire work, and the second movement entitled "Mozart" is an interesting imitation of the great composer as well as a germ of the motifs that would be used in his later works. The other two pieces are also powerful and supple, showing the extraordinary will of the young composer. Naxos Japan
