Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) arranged many of his symphonies, orchestral works, piano concertos, and chamber music for "4 hands for 1 piano". The piano duo of Italian pianists Corrado Greco and Massimiliano Baggio, who focused their attention on the works Brahms arranged for four hands, has recorded the "Complete Symphonies" in "four hands for one piano" version! The second album in the series features the gentle, yet expressive "Symphony No. 2," in contrast to the first symphony recorded on the previous album. It is followed by the "Tragic Overture," conceived between Symphonies No. 2 and No. 3. This overture is a counterpart to the joyous "Overture to the University Celebration" included in the previous work, and its title and structure have led some to whisper that it was inspired by Goethe's "Faust" and other works, but Brahms himself denied this, saying that he had no specific subject matter to work with.Massimiliano Baggio studied with Sergio Fiorentino after graduating with top honors from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. After forming a piano duo with Cristina Frosini and becoming the first performer in Italy to perform all of Schubert's four-handed works, he has been teaching at his alma mater since 2006 and is one of the most important pianists, serving as vice president since 2016. He frequently comes here to Japan for master classes. Corrado Greco, who will form a duo with Baggio, studied piano with Alberto Mozzati and Bruno Canino in Milan, and is a talented pianist who has performed with renowned soloists such as Giovanni Sollima, Massimo Quarta, and Tatiana Vassilieva.
