Rising Russian star Sudobin tackles the first edition of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4, the second concerto by BIS's itiociated pianist Sudobin. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4 exists in three different editions. The first edition was completed in 1926 and dedicated to Métnér, but because it was too long and the music too difficult, it was substantially revised and a second edition was published, but again it was not well received, so it was revised again in its final years, leading to the current edition. The second edition, however, was not so well received and was revised again in its final years, resulting in the current edition. It is longer and more extreme than the current version, and is similar in aspect to the Piano Concerto No. 3. Mettener's Piano Concerto No. 2 is a return gift from Rachmaninoff for his dedication of Concerto No. 4. It too is long and difficult, but Sudbin's dashing performance makes it listenable all at once. [Comments courtesy of King International] ----.
