Born in 1982, Nicolas Altstedt won the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award in 2010, was selected as a BBC Young Generation Artist for 2010-2012, and has performed worldwide including Japan. As a cellist, he is proficient in both modern and period music. He has also demonstrated his brilliance as a conductor, taking over the position of Artistic Director of the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra from Adam Fischer.The first commemorative "Channel Classics" program will showcase the full range of Nicholas Altstedt's abilities as Shostakovich, Lutoslawski, and Weinberg, who has premiered new works by Thomas Ades, Fazil Say, and Matthias Pincher, among others!
